With 9x9 Living, our goal was to transform a low value, transitional living spaces into comfortable homes. If successful, we will have added visible value and created real and elegant solutions for a widely growing housing situation.
Working within 81 sq. ft. spaces, we found that designing small and efficient furniture was of utmost importance. The clients we worked with on this project are developers who purchase derelict buildings and extensively renovate the spaces into apartment spaces. They proposed this challenge to hopefully increase tenant stays from months to years, in an effort to reduce the costs associated with moving tenants in and out. To tackle this problem, our class was given the task of increasing improving life in such small spaces by producing furniture units that can meet the needs of both developers and tenants.
